We needed a large house for a corporate ski weekend--15 adults plus a few kids. Although there were actually several places that could accommodate us, we chose Sean's for its right-on-Lake Tahoe views from pretty much anywhere in the home, the fun 80's decor (real neon accents!), and the rooftop hot tub overlooking the lake. We are delighted we chose Sean's--this was the best retreat we've had, and the rental house was certainly a factor. There are enough rooms--and they are laid out well--to allow kids to play or watch videos in one area while adults meet, visit, or play pool in another. Ditto on dining: kids ate in the large eat-in kitchen and adults in the dining room. We were at first surprised at the two dishwashers, but they were definitely needed. The view was so beautiful and the house so lovely, we ended up eating in for almost all of the meals. Luckily, the kitchen has everything you need--and plenty of it: multiple sinks and coffee makers, a huge fridge and another one in the garage, about a hundred wine glasses, and a gas grill out on the patio. Since this is an expensive house to rent, I imagine you'll do more research, so rather than enumerate everything the house has to offer (which would take a very long time), I'll just mention some of our favorite features--things you won't get from a Vrbo listing, for example. The master suite has a steam room and a state-of-the-art projection system with a screen that comes down from the ceiling. Nearly every bedroom has a deck that overlooks the lake. (I could look at mountains from my shower.) Both living rooms have fireplaces (retro glass block with neon accents). There's a koi "pond" in the main entry--kids can feed the fish each day. And did I mention the view? When the delivery guy came with some food for the kids, he walked into the foyer and almost dropped his pizzas. "Wow--that's a nice view you've got here." (And he lives here.) Last of all, I cannot omit Dr. Sean (the amiable host of the eponymous house) who gave us a tour of the place upon our arrival and filled us in on all kinds of locals' tips for activities, restaurants, and shortcuts to attractions, punctuated by stories about the celebrities who have stayed in the place over the years. He lives four houses away and knows the area well. A one-of-a-kind guy well-suited to this unique home. If he invites you down to his place for "book club" (a glass of wine or a cold beer), do make a point of going. If you have a reunion or retreat coming up, I highly recommend Sean's on the Shore. It will be memorable, comfortable, and a delightful antidote to the generic resort accommodations we've all come to expect.
